Introducing Inshore Fishing to Kids During Their Holiday Break

14 Dec

This "Cat" caught a couple of nice Spanish mackerel on a trip with Navigator Inshore Charters in April.

While the kids are on their Christmas vacation, it will be an ideal time to catch a fishing trip on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Bring the whole family and enjoy the mild, temperate weather while out on the water waiting for a bite on your line. Charter trips during the winter are just as enjoyable as they are in the warmer season.

Have your kids ever experienced the thrill of inshore fishing? It’s a great way to spend the day and pass on your love of fishing to young anglers. Deep sea fishing in multi-passenger boats can sometimes be too overwhelming for the little ones, as it’s far from the shore with rougher water. Inshore adventures are an excellent way to give the kids a taste of fishing in a more comfortable setting.

Inshore and nearshore fishing offers anglers the opportunity to fish with experienced captains in the bays and backwaters of the Gulf Coast, as well as close to the shoreline. Our captains test their waters routinely and know all the hot spots to drop a line. Just like the larger boats, each boat provides bait, tackle and fishing licenses.

The trips only last a few hours, and the boats are smaller – that means more opportunity for close bonding. Another thing that makes inshore fishing the best choice for kids is the catch itself. The fish are smaller and much easier to catch, and the kids will have a blast feeling like fishing experts.

Will you be booking your holiday inshore trip soon? The best way to book a boat is by selecting one from our directory and then calling the captain to set up a date and time. Be sure to leave a message if there is no answer.

  • Quality fishing line is important for those looking to conquer oversized fish on an offshore adventure. The Berkley ProSpec Premium Monofilament Fishing Line is highly recommended by serious anglers.

  • A tackle box is ideal for every saltwater or freshwater angler. It’s a fantastic way to keep fishing gear organized and ready to go at a moment’s notice. Check out the Extreme Qualifier 370 Tackle Bag or System.
  • Dedicated anglers will want a good fillet knife for fish prep, so why not a whole Offshore Angler Fillet Kit? This is a great choice for catches of all sizes.
  • A durable pair of pliers, such as the KVD Braid Cutter/Split Ring Pliers, is an excellent tool to keep in the tackle box.
